Angelica is a tall, queenly herb that has a commanding presence in the garden, its long, thick roots reach deep into the soil are the part used in herbal medicine. Angelica tea is warming to the soul and body bitter but not unpalatable. This bitter aspect is what makes angelica such an excellent herb for digestive problems, settling a nervous stomach and calming tension. Very good in cold and flu teas as well as a mild emmenagogue to bring on a late period. Like the closely related Chinese herb Dong Quai, angelica has a special affinity for women and is one of the herbs employed by midwives during childbirth when labor is long or delayed.
