The plants of the hemp family are best known for their most infamous member Cannabis sativa whose palmate, 5-lobed toothy leaves may be one of the most recognized plants in modern times. Both cannabis and hops are dioecious, meaning they produce male and female flowers on separate plants. Both plants are used as sedatives and possessed of phytochemicals that are nervine and sedative. Hemp, a variety of cannabis with little or no psychotropic properties, is valuable source of essential fatty acids and an environmentally friendly source of fiber for cloth and paper.
