Simple, old-fashioned, and effective, an ice pack right after an injury can help reduce the pain,swelling and bruising after an injury. Protect your skin with a thin cloth and apply a bag of ice cubes, or a frozen bag of vegetables (peas or corn do nicely). Another often overlooked, easy home remedy is potato slices, raw and cool, especially for black eyes.
